Following a number of reports from concerned residents and coverage in the local media regarding an alleged oil spill off Gorleston Beach, I want to reassure residents that we are actively seeking clarification on the matter.
At present, neither I, as Norfolk County Councillor for Gorleston, nor Rupert Lowe – Great Yarmouth MP‘s office have received any notification of a spill through official channels. As a result, we are currently working to establish the facts and have contacted the Environment Agency for confirmation as to whether the reported incident is legitimate and, if so, what action is being taken.
We fully appreciate the concern that reports of this nature can cause, particularly given the potential environmental impact on our coastline. Until official information is provided, we would urge residents to be cautious about unverified reports circulating on social media.
As soon as we receive a response from the relevant authorities, I will provide a further update.
