Recurring Sinkhole on Beaufort way

Following on from the reports of the recurring sinkhole on Beaufort way, I am pleased to say I have received confirmation that it is scheduled to be infilled today. This will be a temporary measure while the highways team monitor, to see if it continues to worsen, as per the plan below:
“At this stage, it is likely that a temporary repair will be carried out while we continue to monitor the condition of the area. If the depression remains stable following the repair and shows no signs of further deterioration, we will not propose any additional works, as this would represent the most efficient and proportionate solution, with an approximate cost of £250.
Should the depression continue to worsen, the temporary repair will provide us with additional time to assess and plan a more substantial repair. Due to the location of the defect, this may require a road closure to allow the necessary investigation, and reinstatement works to be undertaken safely. Such works are significantly more costly, with an estimated total cost of around £3,000, including traffic management and road closure arrangements.
As these works are funded through public funds, we always seek to adopt the most appropriate and cost-effective solution in the first instance. This approach ensures that resources are used efficiently while still maintaining the safety and serviceability of the highway network.”
