A planning application has now been submitted to Great Yarmouth Borough Council to convert the former Lloyds Bank building on Gorleston High Street into flats. This is the same council that keeps telling residents it wants banking services restored in Gorleston – so I expect borough councillors to join me in opposing this development outright.
This building is a prime, strategic location for a Banking Hub. Turning it into yet another block of flats to become run-down is the exact opposite of what our High Street needs. We need shops, services, and businesses, not more flats being pushed by developers from Leeds!
And if the council is genuinely desperate for more housing, perhaps it should finally deal with the empty building beside Morrisons – the one that was supposed to become a care home. How many years does a property have to sit empty before this council decides to act? At what point does inaction become negligence?
I will be vigorously opposing this development, and I expect our borough councillors to finally show some backbone and oppose it too.
Link to the planning application is below.
