Driving Accountability: Council Agrees to Review Translation and Foreign‑Language Spending

We had a Great day at County Hall yesterday 22nd September, and I just wanted to share an update on a second win we achieved, with our motion calling for a full review of all Council spending on translation, interpretation and foreign‑language publication services.
The motion, brought by Cllr Jon Wedon which I was all too pleased to second, sets forth the principle that Council communications should ordinarily be in English, while still meeting all legal requirements and strengthening British Sign Language support.
This review itself will show the full annual cost of translation and interpretation services, which departments are spending the money, and where savings might be found.
The results must be reported back to councillors within six months, with future exempt spending published each year for residents to see.
Two solid steps forward in one day, and clear signs that residents’ concerns are finally being listened to at County Hall.
In addition to the video below, I have included a link to a news article, on the motion, in the comments.
Thank you to everyone for your continued support. I, and the rest of the Restore Britain – Great Yarmouth First team, will keep working hard for the people of the Great Yarmouth constituency, and communities right across Norfolk, and ensure your voices are heard at Norfolk County Council.
